Enid Hyacinth Brown was born on August 18, 1936 in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. She was raised in Kingston, Jamaica, where she attended Excelsior High School and graduated from Fitz-Henly Commercial School. In search of greater opportunities, Enid immigrated to Brooklyn, NY in 1966, believing “the streets of Brooklyn would be lined with gold”. She quickly learned they were not, but nevertheless, found her way and made a life for herself.

Enid eventually moved to South Floral Park in Long Island, NY, where she raised her children, Dwight Brown and Tara Brown Favors. She found employment at Winthrop University Hospital, where she worked for over 20 years. Enid was a faithful servant of the Lord. With charity always in her heart, she supported many causes and was always willing to help someone in need. Cooking was her love language. You could always find a pot of oxtails or curry chicken on her stove or at your doorstep on your birthday. Her celebrity moment came when she was featured on “CBS This Morning”, teaching local teenagers how to cook curry chicken by zoom during Covid.

In her later years, Enid moved to South Orange, NJ, where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Dale, and grandchildren, Dalton and Davis, and Myles, who visited her over the summers. There, she acquired the nickname "Nana Brown", which she relished. Enid became the "adopted" Nana for many of the children in her town, and friend and confidante to many more. She spent her last years at Brighton Gardens of West Orange, where she learned to play BINGO and had lots of heart-felt laughs with the staff and residents.

Enid lived an amazing life. Her warmth, strength, and quiet grace touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
