RECENT HIGHLIGHTS

Diabetic Retinopathy

The AFJ facilitated a generous US$150,000 donation from Danny and Paula Wegman, dedicated to improving eye care in Western Jamaica. Additional major donors included Ambassador Sue Cobb, Mary Jane & Glenn Creamer, Al Dwoskin, Mark & Candace Hart, Brian & Shelagh Jardim, Jonathan Lock, and Mark & Kathleen Newman.

The funds were used to purchase retinal cameras, a laser machine, and to provide training for enhanced diagnosis and treatment of vision loss across four parishes. 

Handheld Ultrasound Project
(3rd year)

In partnership with JAHJAH Foundation and the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the 3rd annual Jamaica Handheld Ultrasound Project (JHUP) was held on Jan 27 in Kingston, training public-sector physicians in the use of handheld ultrasound technology (POCUS).

To date, 50 devices have been distributed to 19 hospitals, training 100+ doctors and reaching 90,000 patients annually.
