AFJ Announces its 2017 Hummingbird Gala in NYC

The non-profit will honour philanthropists Mr. Joseph M. Matalon, CD, Mr. Vincent HoSang, OD, OJ, and Mr. Cecil Sam Wright in New York City at their Annual Flagship Gala

NEW YORK (July 19, 2017) – The American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) announces the organization’s Annual Fundraising Gala in New York City to be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at the spectacular Mandarin Oriental in Columbus Circle NYC.

To mark this year’s 2017 International Humanitarian Award, we will honor recipients Mr. Joseph M. Matalon, Mr. Vincent HoSang and Mr. Cecil Sam Wright. The evening begins with cocktails, a unique auction collection, four course dinner and culminates with exciting entertainment at this prestigious NYC venue overlooking Central Park. The event showcases the AFJ’s impact in Jamaica and is a time to celebrate these three extraordinary philanthropists. Reggae MegaStar, Busy Signal, will be performing as the musical guest.

The annual New York Gala is an opportunity for the diaspora community, supporters and friends with an interest in Jamaica to give back to Jamaicans in the areas of education, healthcare and economic development. The Gala will present a highly coveted selection of items at a silent auction, cocktails, and a dinner, all to the benefit of Jamaicans in need. AFJ Galas have attracted a diverse and aware audience of friends of Jamaica. Honorees have included Bob Pittman, iHeartMedia, Gary “Butch” Hendrickson, National Continental Baking Company, Lowell Hawthorne, GoldenKrust, Dennis Lalor, ICWI, Kenny Benjamin, Guardsman Group, Denis O’Brien, Digicel, Ralph & Ricky Lauren, Harry Belafonte and numerous others. To date, the AFJ has presented grants of over U$14M. The AFJ demonstrates the power of collaboration and support to help engage people from underserved communities.

“As a group, we are committed to help Jamaicans in need with tools and opportunities to help them improve their conditions and realize their fullest potential,” said AFJ Executive Director Caron S. Chung.
